Best Cleaning Tips With Vinegar

I’ll admit that there are days when I hate cleaning. I wish I was more excited about it, but we all have our days! Once I started using vinegar to clean I realized I can save time and I have come to enjoy it much more.

Yes, I still use plenty of store bought cleaning products and prepared cleaners, but there is something about using vinegar that works for me. That’s why I new that I wanted to share these tips with you.

Cleaning Hardwood Floors With Vinegar

We pretty much have had hardwood floors in every house we have lived in. They are gorgeous and add so much charm and character, but when they aren’t kept clean they can be streaky and spotty.

Using vinegar to clean hardwood floors is wonderful. Not only does it clean them and get rid of dirt and grime, but it also keeps them from looking streaky.

I recommend doing a test area first just to make sure that it works with your floors and finish. Then once you know it won’t cause any problems to fill a gallon bucket with warm water.

Next, pour in 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar and stir it around. Mop like you normally would and enjoy the results of cleaning with vinegar!

How To Clean Windows With Vinegar

Raise your hand if you hate cleaning windows because they always end up streaky. This used to be me, but thankfully vinegar has been a game-changer.

Fill up a spray bottle with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. It’s a good idea to make sure to dilute it with water instead of using straight vinegar. Shake well then spray onto windows.

Using a squeegee made for cleaning windows and wipe clean. You will be amazed by how gorgeous your windows look.

Clean Microwave With Vinegar

It’s amazing how gross and dirty microwaves get with very little usage. I find it’s best to put 1/8 – 1/4 of a cup of vinegar with 1/2 – 1 cup of water in a bowl.

Turn on your microwave and heat for 1 minute. Never heat it longer than one 1 minute at a time or it can burn you when you take it out. The steam will loosen up all the stuck-on food. Wipe it out and repeat if necessary. Your kitchen is even more enjoyable when it’s cleaned up properly.

How To Clean Shower Head With Vinegar

If you have hard water, it’s no secret that shower heads can get gummed up with calcium and lime build up. It can make your shower less than enjoyable.

I recommend cleaning your shower head once a month by using vinegar. The easiest way to do this is to remove the shower head and soak it in a bowl of vinegar for 15 – 20 minutes. Then take a brush like a toothbrush and scrub the shower head until all the junk comes off. You may need to repeat this process if it’s really clogged.

Some people have recommended leaving the shower head intact. Then you fill up a ziplock bag with vinegar and tie it onto the shower head using a rubber band.

I find this method is okay, but have ended up with vinegar all over me too many times. Let’s just say a vinegar shower isn’t all that great. 😉

Use whichever method works best for you and it will be fine. You can’t go wrong and as long as your shower head ends up clean you will be happy you did it. Vinegar is a great tool to have your bathroom sparkling clean in no time.

Clean Your Countertops With Vinegar

Before you try to clean your countertop with vinegar, you need to check your manufacturs instructions before beginning. Not all countertops can be cleaned with vinegar.

If your countertop is good to go, then you can clean up those ahrd water stains easily. If you get hard water build up around your faucet the easiest way to clean it is to lay a soft cloth or paper towel in the area you want to clean. Then pour a little bit of vinegar on the towel.

The vinegar should make the cloth or paper towel fairly moist. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Then remove the cloth and wipe away residue.

If there are some really stuck on spots, you may need to repeat the process. Also, you can use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the area clean too.

Important Things You Need To Know About Vinegar

While vinegar is a wonderful and inexpesnive way to clean, there are also a few things you need to know. Let’s get started:

  • Don’t use apple cider vinegar on surfaces that can stain. The last thing you want is to try to clean up something and end up with a stain bigger than the spot you tried to clean in the first place. When it’s the garbage disposal or microwave, it won’t cause problems. However, if you’re cleaning some white blinds, you may have a mess.
  • Never, ever, under any circumstance mix vinegar with bleach. Those two chemicals are VERY bad for each other. They will produce a vapor that can make you extremely sick. No one wants to risk that, so steer clear of this combo at all costs.
  • Never clean your devices with vinegar. If you tried to clean your television, computer, tablet, or cell phone with vinegar you will be super disappointed because it will damage them.
