Perfectly charred smashed burger nestled on a piece of toasted bread with caramelized onions, and melted swiss cheese. That’s exactly what you get when you make this patty melt. This is my spin on the famous Whataburger Patty Melt Copycat but made at home on your Blackstone Griddle. I have one word to describe it….YUM!!!

How To Make Patty Melts

Step 1: Caramelize Onions

Begin by adding butter to the hot Blackstone Griddle. Add the sliced onions and season with salt and pepper. Flip frequently until they are the texture and color you like.

Step 2: Cook the burgers

Add hamburger to the griddle and smash down to form a flattened patty. Season with Blackstone Whiskey Burger Seasoning. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook until the bottom side develops a slight crust.

Flip the burgers, and add a little more seasoning, salt and pepper. Finish cooking until the burger reaches desired doneness.

Step 3: Toast the bread

Butter the bread and toast on the Blackstone. Flip and toast second side.

Step 4: Assemble the patty melt

Add caramelized onions to the burger and top with a slice of swiss cheese. Let sit until the cheese gets melty. Add the burger to the toast and serve. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef made into 8 patties
  • 2 medium onions cut into slivers
  • 4 slices swiss cheese
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • Blackstone Whiskey Burger seasoning to taste
  • butter

Instructions

  • Begin by adding 1-2 tablespoons butter to the hot Blackstone Griddle. Add the sliced onions and season with salt and pepper. Flip frequently until they are the texture and color you like.
  • Add hamburger to a greased griddle and smash down to form a flattened patty. Season with Blackstone Whiskey Burger Seasoning. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook until the bottom side develops a slight crust.
  • Flip the burgers, and add a little more seasoning, salt and pepper. Finish cooking until the burger reaches desired doneness.
  • Butter the bread and toast on the Blackstone. Flip and toast second side.
  • Add caramelized onions to the burger and top with a slice of swiss cheese. Let sit until the cheese gets melty. Add the 2 burger patties for each patty melt and serve. Enjoy!

Notes

Note: You can cut the recipe in half and make 1/4 pound burgers instead of 1/2 pound. Or keep the recipe the same and serve 8 with smaller burgers.
