When it comes to holiday messes the first room to get out of control in the kitchen. All of that baking, cooking, and gathering done in the kitchen makes it very difficult to keep clean and tidy. With a few tricks and planning ahead you can help keep your kitchen clean with these holiday house cleaning tips during the festive season.

📌 Organizing

Organizing your kitchen is the first step to ensuring it will stay clean. If you do not have a neat and handy place for kitchen utensils this is the time to get some organizational tools. Even a cheap canister or clean glass jar leftover from a burnt-down candle can work to keep utensils handy and out of a drawer where you are likely to have to pull multiple ones out to get the one you need.

🥤 Prepare the Fridge

Line refrigerator shelves with paper towels or silicone mats. This will drastically reduce your clean up time when spills happen in your refrigerator as you are trying to balance and shift items to make room.

🍽️ Dishes

Unload the dishwasher before cooking or guests arriving. This will ensure you have plenty of room to load it with dishes as you cook or entertain keeping them off the counter and out of the way.

Keep a sink full of soapy water for easy hand washing of dishes while you are cooking. When cleaning up is a breeze you are more likely to keep on top of it rather than let it get out of hand. If you want to store hand-washed dishes and leave the sink open, place a dishpan under the sink to toss dishes into until you are ready to wash. This will keep them out of view.

🗑️ Get rid of the trash

Another way to help with house cleaning is to empty your kitchen trash can before cooking or having guests arrive. When the trash can gets full it has a tendency to overflow or people just leave the trash laying around where it needs to be cleaned up later and leaves the kitchen a mess. if this doesn’t seem to be enough you may want to invest in a larger kitchen trash can to help keep the mess under control.

🧽 Gather Cleaning Supplies

Keep a kit of cleaning supplies handy. A basket or caddy with cleaning rags, spray cleaners, and other basic cleaning tools in an easy to reach place can make cleaning up messes quick and easy so they are less likely to be left out.

🧼 Keep The Counters Clean

Use silicone mats when kneading and working with messy foods on the countertop. This will help make cleaning up a lot easier and faster. Just lift up the mat and take it to the sink rather than risking turning flour into a paste on your countertop when you are in a hurry to move on to the next task.

Clear off counters and put appliances you do not need for the day away. Having extra appliances out clutters your counters and makes for more work to get everyday tasks done. Keeping your counters clear of items you will not need will make your kitchen look cleaner and make wiping your counters down for clean-ups easier.
