- All purpose flour
- Crackers, I prefer Club, but Ritz would also work
- Eggs
- Milk or buttermilk
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Vegetable Oil
- Buns, optional
- Vegetable Oil
- Any additional seasonings you like
- Barbecue sauce, I used Head Country
How To Make A Fried BBQ Chicken Sandwich
Step 1: Prep Chicken
Cut your pieces of chicken horizontally so you have 2 pieces per breast.
Step 2: Bread Chicken
Mix together the eggs and milk with a whisk in a medium sized bowl. Then combine crushed crackers, flour, and seasonings in another bowl. Coat chicken in egg mixture and flour mixture. Repeat until all chicken has been dipped in each mixture two times.
Step 3: Fry
Place chicken in a fryer that is 350 degrees. Fry until the chicken reaches 165 degrees internally, about 10 – 15 minutes. You can also fry in a pan, make sure to flip halfway through.
Step 4: Air Fry
Dip chicken into a bowl with your favorite barbecue sauce. Then place in the air fryer at 375 degrees for 6-10 minutes or until the sauce is caramelized.
Step 5: Assemble
Add the barbecue chicken to the bun with all your favorite toppings and dig in!
Frequently Asked Questions
No, it’s not required. The reason I air fry it after it’s cooked is to really make that sauce caramelize and stick to the chicken. But you can skip that part completely or bake it in the oven instead.
