How To Make Home Fries

Below you will find a printable recipe card.

Step 1: Cut the fries

Clean your russet potatoes and dry. Then begin cutting the home fries into thin slices. Be sure to cut the strips so they are very similar in size. They will cook much more evenly.

Note: Some people prefer to soak cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water for best results. Soak for 10-15 minutes to help pull out the starch.

Step 2: Season

Combine 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of your favorite seasoning. 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Pour the mixture over the fries and toss to coat them evenly.

Step 3: Air Fry French Fries

Place the home fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer so the hot air can circulate properly. Cook at 375 for 12 minutes. Shake the basket and turn the fries. Cook for an additional 8-10 minutes or until they reach the desired crispiness. Place on a paper towel lined plate. Sprinkle with a little sea salt. Serve and enjoy the crispy home fries!

Pro Tip: You may need to work in batches. After cooking the first batch, place them in the oven at 150 degrees to keep them warm until you are ready to serve.

FAQs

What kinds of sauce go with home fries?

Pretty much anything you like will go with these air fryer french fries! Sprinkle them with some Italian seasonings, garlic powder, onion powder, cajun seasonings, or sprinkle with some fresh herbs and cheese.

What makes a good dipping sauce for air fryer home fries?

We love to mix half ketchup and half mayonnaise, a little bit of pickle juice and sprinkle with crushed black pepper! It’s downright heavenly.

You could also use barbecue sauce, gravy, sweet and sour sauce, ranch dressing, or any other dipping sauce you enjoy. Play around with the sauces until you find your favorites.

Can I use red potatoes?

Yes, you can make these crispy potatoes with red potatoes. They will cook the same as russets and will have a nice pop of color. You can also follow the same recipe using sweet potatoes. They will take a little longer to cook when making sweet potatoes, so add cooking time as needed.

What kind of oil can I use to get the perfect crispy texture?

It’s my personal preference to use olive oil, but you can also use coconut oil and avocado oil. They have a higher smoke point so they work well in the air fryer. Additionally, you could use vegetable oil as well.

Can I make loaded air fryer french fries?

Yep! Top them with some seasoning salt, crispy air fryer bacon, green peppers, green onions, cheese and some sour cream! Then you will have the best loaded crispy air fryer home fries ever!

Storage

Store leftover home fries in an airtight container. They will last in the fridge for up to 3 days. Keep in mind they are best when served fresh, but can be reheated.

To reheat, place back in the air fryer and heat for 5-8 minutes at 350 degrees. I have found this is my favorite way to reheat them.
