Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese Tips

  • Stay away from bagged shreds. I know it’s tempting to save a few minutes, but I PROMISE it’s worth the extra few minutes to shred the cheese yourself. The cheese will be grainy if you used the bagged stuff.
  • Add some bacon. You know how much we love bacon! Add some crumbled and cooked bacon to the smoked mac n cheese when you add the cheese.
  • Swap the cheese. If you don’t like any of the kinds of cheese, feel free to swap it out! Cheddar and mozzarella are also great choices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use gouda cheese?

Nope, you can exchange it for any cheese that you like. Play with the flavors until you find one that works for your family.

Can you overcook pasta?

Yes, once you overcook it there isn’t anything you can do about it. It will become mushy and break apart easily if overcooked. Only cook in the pressure cooker for 4 minutes and do a quick release.

What does gouda cheese taste like?

Gouda cheese has a smoky and stronger flavor than a lot of other cheeses. The older the cheese the stronger the flavor will be. Some think that gouda has a nutty flavor to it.
